Farewell Reception for the High Commissioner of India

A farewell reception in honour of the outgoing Indian High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Vikram Doraiswami, was held on Friday, 17 April 2026 at the High Commission of India (India House), Aldwych, London.

The event brought together a distinguished gathering of members of the Indian diaspora, community leaders, diplomats, and representatives from political, governmental, and civic institutions. The historic India House provided an elegant setting for an evening celebrating diplomacy, partnership, and enduring bilateral ties.

Among the prominent attendees was Seema Malhotra, MP and Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State in the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office. In her address, she highlighted several key achievements during High Commissioner Doraiswami’s tenure, praising his leadership in strengthening Indo-UK relations across trade, education, technology, and cultural engagement. She also conveyed her best wishes for his next diplomatic assignment.

It was noted during the evening that Vikram Doraiswami will take up his next role as India’s Ambassador to China, marking an important new chapter in his diplomatic career.

The reception was also attended by Members of Parliament including Barry Gardiner and Virendra Sharma, alongside Lords and Baronesses from the House of Lords. Senior representatives from the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and members of the City of London were also present, reflecting the depth of institutional and economic ties between the two nations.

Speakers and guests paid warm tributes to the High Commissioner’s tenure, acknowledging his contributions to deepening strategic cooperation and his active engagement with the Indian diaspora in the UK. The gathering highlighted the vital role of the diaspora in fostering strong people-to-people connections between India and the United Kingdom.
